The machine is used to balance at high speed in an optimum way the turbochargers core assembly (CHRA), the measurement being made on the residual value of vibration due to the acceleration of the rotor (speeds up to 200,000 rpm / min). Besides balancing, this allows to avoid having a noisy turbocharger (whistling) and fully control the tightness of the turbocharger (oil leak). We can therefore consider our VSR as a bench test for turbochargers.
Our machine is a VSR easy to use, ergonomic and inexpensive compared to the other similar machines on the market.
A power electric supply of 220 volts and a compressed air supply (compressed air of the order of 8 bar constant pressure) are sufficient for the proper functioning of the machine.
The VSR SURAL requires only a few oil return adapters (included in delivery) to fix the core assembly (CHRA) on the machine but has the distinction of not requiring any turbine housing adapter since we use the original turbo turbine housing to propel the air flow necessary for the entrainment of the rotor of the turbo (the turbine housing may be in any angular position (unrestricted housing angle on 360°)).
The complete turbo (without compressor cover) is so fixed by simply clamping on the bracket , turbo lubrication being provided by the bearing housing oil inlet , oil return to the machine directly made through our platinum, we exclude by this method any oil contamination by metal shavings resulting from grinding of the nut.
It is then enough to magnetise the compressor wheel nut to start the measurement. The magnetic sensor takes reference mark (0 °) and is able to accurately index the position of the unbalance. The system is accurate and not subject to any wear.
The rotor acceleration is done by compressed air. This allows a rotation going according turbo type from 50,000 rpm / min to 200,000 rpm / min. Measuring process is done in few seconds. A graphic displaying on the screen indicating the residual vibration value based on the rotational speed. Besides, software shows the exact angle of unbalance, a cursor positioning on the peak of imbalance to be corrected to achieve a perfect balance of the turbo. Tolerance limit lines according to manufacturers’ specifications indicate to the operator if the turbo is consistent or requires again correction by removing material.
No machine calibration is required before use.
Our measurement system allows us to accurately measure the defects of the turbo before correction by a simple reading of the graph in g / speed / angle on the monitor screen.
The balancing corrections being made by successive slight grinding of the wheel nut until of getting a curve (or line) regular underneath the values beforehand defined by the turbocharger manufacturers.
